PENALTIES, MITIGATION, AND NEGOTIATION

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) imposes heavy penalties whenever late submission of tax returns or files after the due date. However, penalties may be avoided and our experts could apply and negotiate with MRA on your behalf for a tax waiver thereby reducing the stress of managing your taxes. In Malawi, tax penalties are heavy and if the taxpayer has no intention to evade tax the imposition could be averted by contacting us. MRA officials are likely to listen to us faster than you if we submit on your behalf because we speak the same language.

VALUATION OF GOODS

Customs officials do not trust some importers of goods as a result they disregard invoices produced and prefer to estimate the value of your imported goods for the determination of Value for Duty Purposes (VDP) on which the duty is calculated. We are in a position to negotiate on your behalf so that your customs duty liability is not excessive due to misclassification of goods, country of origin, and not making use of agreements and other protocols that could assist in paying less import duty.

TAX AUDIT DEFENCE

As a normal standard practice, the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) carry out periodically tax audits in all taxes namely:

  • Pay As You Earn (PAYE);
  • Withholding tax (WHT);
  • Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT);
  • Non-Resident tax (NRT);
  • Value Added Tax (VAT); and
